MANASSAS, Va. – Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) awarded $1,500 scholarships to 11 area high school seniors in May. An independent panel of judges evaluated applicants on their academic records, community involvement, demonstrated leadership, and recommendations.
Ariana Lewis received the NOVEC scholarship reserved for a student attending a historically Black college or university. A scholarship was also presented to Kyla Clauden, of Halifax County High School in Halifax County, where NOVEC operates a biomass electric generating facility.
Judges recognized Anjika Ganjoo, of Lightridge High School in Loudoun County, as the most outstanding student among the group of recipients. She received an additional $3,500 as the winner of the J. Manley Garber Scholarship, named for the late NOVEC Board of Directors chairman. Ganjoo will attend the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia.
“Congratulations to these students for their excellent accomplishments at school and in the community. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for each of you,” said Jenny Shaskan, NOVEC communications and engagement specialist and coordinator of the scholarship program.
